Our Beauty
Beyond Cancer Initiative
Cancer treatment asks an enormous amount of a person, and the changes it brings to your skin and your reflection can be one of the harder parts to sit with. Beauty Beyond Cancer exists to offer a little relief from that. Not a fix, and not a distraction from what you are going through, but a gentle, soothing experience meant to support both physical and emotional wellbeing.
Working alongside Cancer Culture and The Power of One Foundation lets us reach people who might not otherwise have access to this kind of care. For us it reflects something central to how we practice, that healing, dignity, and feeling like yourself matter.
What Makes a Facial Oncology-Safe
Skin in treatment is not the same as skin that is not, and it should never be treated the same way. A standard facial can involve strong exfoliating acids, retinoids, extractions, vigorous massage, and heavily fragranced products, all of which can be too much for skin made fragile by chemotherapy or radiation.
We use Luxe Beauty products, formulated specifically for sensitive and compromised skin, and we set aside the actives and aggressive techniques entirely. That means no strong acids or retinoids, no harsh exfoliation, and a gentle approach throughout, with pressure and product chosen for how your skin is responding that day. We work carefully around ports, surgical sites, and any area treated with radiation, adjusting as we go rather than following a set routine. Comfort leads every decision.

How Treatment Can Affect Your Skin
If your skin has changed since starting treatment, you are not imagining it. Many people notice:
- Dryness, tightness, or a rough, flaky texture
- Heightened sensitivity, or products that suddenly sting when they never used to
- Redness or irritation, particularly around a radiation site
- Increased sensitivity to sunlight
- Dullness or changes in tone and pigmentation
- Thinning, more fragile-feeling skin
- Breakouts or rashes that are new for you
A gentle facial cannot undo these changes, and we would never suggest otherwise. What it can do is hydrate, soothe, and offer a moment of genuine care while your skin is under strain.
What to Expect at Your Visit
We keep everything unhurried and centered on you:
A conversation first
We ask about your treatment, where you are in it, how your skin has been behaving, and anything that feels sensitive or off-limits. Nothing happens until we understand your situation.
A gentle cleanse
Your skin is cleansed with mild, fragrance-conscious products chosen for compromised skin.
Soothing, hydrating care
Depending on what your skin needs that day, this may include a calming mask, hydrating serums, and light, careful massage, avoiding sensitive areas.
Protection to finish
We finish with hydrating and protective products, and talk through sun protection, which matters more than usual during treatment.
Simple home guidance
If it would help, we will suggest a gentle routine you can manage at home.

Please Check With Your Care Team First
Before your visit, we ask that you check with your oncologist or care team about whether a gentle facial is appropriate for you right now. Timing can matter, and some points in a treatment cycle, or certain conditions affecting the skin, may mean waiting a while is the safer choice.
We are glad to answer any questions your care team has and to work around whatever guidance they give us. It also helps to tell us about any medications, recent procedures, or areas of concern when you arrive. This is a comfort and self-care service, not a medical treatment, and it is meant to sit alongside your medical care rather than in place of it.
How to Request a Facial or Nominate Someone
If you are going through treatment, or recovering from it, you are welcome to request a facial for yourself using the nomination form on this page. You can also nominate someone else, whether that is a family member, a friend, or a colleague who could use an hour of being looked after. If you have questions first, or you are not sure whether the timing is right, please reach out and we will talk it through with you.
Why Restorativ Health & Beauty
Restorativ Health & Beauty was founded by Melody Aquilino, a registered nurse whose clinical background includes critical care and caring for transplant and oncology patients. That experience shapes how we approach this program. We understand what treatment does to a person, we know the difference between what is soothing and what is too much, and we take real care with skin that needs it.
Our facials happen in a calm, private, medically directed setting, with providers who adapt to how you are feeling rather than working through a script. We were also honored to share this initiative on Good Day PA alongside our partners, and we remain grateful to Cancer Culture and The Power of One Foundation for making it possible.
